Orienteering

The local orienteering club has a series of event nights on over the next couple of months. We spotted this in the local paper. Thinking the kids might enjoy it, the plan was to tear home from work, round them up and head on up to the course by 5:15 pm. Mission accomplished by 5:25. Line up, no clue what I am doing, but try not too look to dumb. Ask for maps of easy course, of course!! Thanks Alana for getting the marker numbers, wouldn't have got very far with out those. Line up to go, having orientated the maps. Niggling doubt as to how we will do this if we don't actually know where on the map the markers are - a little puzzling. Very helpful club lady reviews our cards and gently points out where to get the master maps to copy out our route. Pretend this all makes perfect sense and expected.

Copying complete - line up to go. (If you look closely you will see the red circles and joining lines that indicate the route.) Alana and Samuel away first, that's the last Danielle and I see of them for the whole course. Begin to think we are very slow. Arrive back to find we have got in first. Start to worry and imagine a call to the Police and local SAR. How do I tell Ann? "Honey I have lost the kids" not very original. Then we see them heading up the hill having worked really well together to solve it. What great team work between the two of them - knew that would be the case all the time.

Very proud of all of them for the way they completed the 1.8km circuit. We all had a really good time and will be off to Ross Creek Reservoir next week to do the another course. We were amazed at how many people and especially families there were. But, it is such a great idea. How to get kids to go for a run for 90 minutes with out a single complaint. Brilliant!!
