Sam, as he now likes to be known and called, even by us, (I have made the switch albeit somewhat inconsistently and if there is any trouble it is definitely - Samuel!) loves his facts, figures and activities.
Today he has built a periscope and a sundial. Yesterday would have been a great day for the sundial but he will have to wait for it again as today we have been fog bound. One of the joys of living on the hill. He was also hoping to separate the colours of the spectrum using his prism but again this needs the sun. His solar powered car and his solar powered radio, that he built in summer are in the same predicament! Winter is not necessarily the best time for all these things to be operating

Hey Sam! Do you have any photos of your periscope? I was thinking of making one with Katie -- she's really into spying at the moment! Did you find the plans online?
Hi Dave, we have been really busy but to answer your question, and thanks for that, yes he does. We were going to take some photos tonight but he ran out of time. The periscope is good but he got into it a little quick in doing it himself and not all the cuts he made were square (quite important for an optical instrument). When we get a moment we will up load some pictures for you if you have not already gone ahead and made one!
Hi uncle Dave. Haven't been able to get pictures of my periscope yet sorry. What it can do is it can look up and over things, so just say you were behind a small bush and you wanted to look over it without being seen. Then you could pop the head of the periscope on top of the bush and look through the bottom of it and you can see whats going on without sticking your head out. Isn't that cool. Sam.
