Mt Biking in our backyard

Little did I know that a short ride from home was a great area for Mt Biking. A friend Phil Smith told me that around Jubilee Park, a couple of minutes down the road from us and within easy biking distance, was this park that has some great off road tracks. Alana and I went to explore it today and there is plenty of challenge for both of us! A bit if history to the area follows -

"Development of “Tomlinson’s Paddock” (Jubilee Park) began in 1887 when Queen Victoria's Jubilee was celebrated by the planting of trees of the British Empire. The area had been leased for grazing and the lessee offered to give up his lease for the Jubilee project. The purpose of the planting of the area was to create a garden representing the flora of the British Empire. An oak tree was planted by the Mayor RH Leary to mark the Jubilee, and further planting was undertaken."

In the bush surrounding the park are a number of interconnecting tracks, many quite narrow and steep & some of which are stepped all set aside for biking. A real find and right on our back door! We knew about the park but not that it had the tracks set aside for biking.

"It is a fun, safe and easy circuit (but still challenging) for parents, children and seasoned riders alike.

We designed and developed the Jubilee Park mountain bike circuit with help from the late mountain bike personality, Trevor Gerrish and local mountain bikers often call the circuit 'Trev’s Track'." See here
